Maybe We Should Pray For Time?

These are the days of the open hand

They will not be the last

These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man

Whose place is in the past

Hand in hand with ignorance

And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor

And most of us are not sure

If we have too much but we'll take our chances

'Cause God's stopped keeping score

I guess somewhere along the way

He must have let us all out to play

Turned His back and all God's children

Crept out the back door

And it's hard to love

There's so much to hate

Hanging on to hope

When there is no hope to speak of

And the wounded skies above

Say it's much, too much, too late

Well, maybe we should all be praying for time

And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

This is the year of the guilty man

Your television takes a stand

And you find that what was over there is over here

So you scream from behind your door

Dr. King dedicated his life to bettering this country and bringing us closer to the light of equality in every facet of our society. He believed in it so strongly that he lost his life for it. That’s why it’s important today that we honor him by doing something kind for someone else or helping folks in need.

Dr. King believed that we could build a better world through empathy, compassion, and kindness. So as you go about your day today, think about how you can better live with those values so that we can all strive towards the world Dr. King envisioned together.

I Have a Dream" is a public speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States. Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., the speech was a defining moment of the civil rights movement and among the most iconic speeches in American history. Under the applicable copyright laws, the speech will remain under copyright in the United States until 70 years after King's death, through 2038.
